The Only 5 Job Interview Questions You
MUST Answer.
Forget memorizing answers to all the trick
interview questions the interview "advice" books
give you. It's not necessary. In reality, an
interview is just an opportunity for a company to get the
answers to 5 rather simple job interview questions.
That's right, only
five.
But here's the kicker: If you don't or can't
answer any one of these questions to their satisfaction,
you will not be hired or brought back for a future
interview.
Here are the questions:
|
The 5 job interview questions
you will always need to
answer:
-
Why
are you here?
-
What can you
do for us?
-
Will you fit
in? i.e., will you get along with
our values and culture here?
-
What makes you
different from everyone else that
we may have talked with, i.e., will
you go that extra mile?
-
How
much will you cost us?
|
Knowing this well before you set foot in an
interview, here is how to prepare your answers
to these questions that will result in your
winning either an offer or a follow-up
interview:
In general terms, here's what they are looking
for in each of these questions:
Why are you here? Tell them
what you like or impresses you about this company.
Obviously, you need to do your homework and research this
company before your interview.
What can you do for us? List
what skills seem to you to be needed (assuming of
course you have these skills) and cite evidence from your
past that would support those skills.
Will you fit in?
Demonstrate how much a team player you
are, your specific contributions to the company's mission
and cite several successful projects you've been a
part of and describe your role in each project's
success.
What makes you different?
Highlight instances where you have gone the extra mile,
put forth extraordinary effort, or successfully overcome
unique challenges in your work history that have resulted
in a positive outcomes such as winning a major contract,
completing a project ahead of schedule or making or
exceeding a goal or quota that may have hinged in the
balance.
How much will you cost? You
don't want to get into a discussion about salary here. If
they bring it up, it's only to allay any early anxieties
in their mind about whether they can afford you. You only
need to demonstrate a willingness to work with them within
the confines of their compensation structure at this
point. Keep it general here and don't go quoting dollar
figures at this stage. If they really want you, they'll
find a way to pay you what you're worth at
closing.
Summary: Your objective in an
interview is to stand out and be remembered from all the
other job applicants. By answering these 5 job interview
questions in your own unique style, you'll separate
yourself from the pack and win either a callback or a job
offer.
